At the start of the module Game Art, we went to visit an exhibition at the Museum at Löwenbräu to gather inspiration. Each of us was tasked to choose an artwork and try to imagine it in the context of a game project. I chose an array of freestanding doorways, forming a sort of imaginary hallway, to which I imagined that it would be an interesting idea to have each door perform a unique effect when it is crossed by the player.
After forming a group together with Benjamin Scherrer, we then started to work out some game pillars:
- Self-Contained: The game does not need to explain itself to the player.
- Uniqueness: Each element of the game should perform a unique effect.
The following work on the game idea was a very experimental and free process, which was a breath of fresh air compared to the other game projects we did that semester. The graphics were chosen to be very minimalistic and some of the doors interconnect parts of the level in a non-euclidian way to further create a sense of disorientation for the player.
